Approach
My work blends art direction, structural guidance, design, and photo editing to shape how a reader experiences a story—not just how it looks.
The projects below explore the creative and editorial decisions behind each piece, and how visual systems helped bring complex narratives to life.
Inside the Bin Laden Raid: Visual Storytelling for an Oral History
Presidential Memoirs: An interactive editorial experiment
Mining Alaska: A Long-Form Visual Investigation project
For this long-form project exploring a proposed mining development in Alaska, I partnered closely with a photo editor, interactive designer, and map illustrator to create a restrained, immersive visual experience.
The design prioritized large-format photography, subtle video loops, and generous white space, allowing the people and landscapes to carry emotional weight without visual noise. A scrolling map clarified the geography of the project, while asymmetrical photo grids introduced rhythm and narrative pacing across sections.
Motion and layout were used sparingly to guide readers through the story without interrupting its tone, allowing the quiet beauty of the land — and the voices of those who depend on it — to remain at the center of the narrative.
